I used to not even know what a credit check was (is it still much the same?). I'm not sure if it's the same now, but every few years or so, I get a phone call from ○○○○ research.
The question they ask is whether there are any changes in the directors or other details of the company.
I've never asked to register with these places in the first place, but I do get calls.
I've also had investigators come to my office about a job request from a client.
