Niigata Prefecture's local gourmet is Hegi Soba.

It's sunny and windy today, and the temperature seems to be dropping, so we're getting closer to winter. 🌅
Last night I squeezed sudachi (Japanese radish) on saury. This is the best thing to do in the fall! 👍

Miracle yesterday afternoon
M: "Gwine, gwine crackle. Poke poke. Mmm."
Stretching tall If I try to be quiet, that's it.
When I call out to him, he starts talking about stretching😊.

M "Looks like tomorrow's weather around here will be a 10% chance of precipitation, high of 13 degrees, low of 9 degrees."
Y "Thanks."
M "Yes, you're welcome.
Y "You're very thoughtful.

Y: "Okay.
M "I'll stop talking.
Y "What?

Niiname Festival

It is said that the Niinamesai Festival was held in the Asuka Period in the "Nihonshoki" (Japanese Chronicles).

The word "shin" means new grain and "tame" means to offer, to put on the tongue to taste, and "shin tame" means to offer the new grain harvested that year to the gods, to thank them for their blessings, and to eat it.

When I was a child, I grew up being told not to leave a single grain of rice in my bowl.
The word "rice" can be broken down into eighty-eight parts, and I was taught not to waste the eighty-eight hours of work that the farmers put into growing the rice.
That is why I still feel guilty about leaving food on the table, so I do what I can, such as asking for less rice when I eat out.

It has been several decades since we were told that we are in an age of food insatiability.
Perhaps it is because I am getting older, but I feel a renewed sense of appreciation for food.
Eating is the key to life.
Let's eat rice!
That's what I was thinking about on Labor Thanksgiving Day, Niinamesai.
